An analogue camera sends video over coaxial cable to a BNC connector, and takes power through a DC plug. The DVR records it and shows it on a monitor.

How an IP camera connects

An IP camera connects over a LAN cable. A PoE switch or injector can send power over the same cable, but only when both the camera and the switch or injector support PoE. The NVR records the video.
